November 2014 Newsletter
Monthly Theme – North American Indians
The overall theme of November is a time for “giving thanks”. We as teachers and staff give thanks for the possibility that each child represents and also take a moment to renew our own faith and commitment to what we believe in, the child’s eagerness to learn and the Montessori Method of education. The education of your child has begun!
Your child has successfully introduced to a series of Practical Life lessons or skills for living and adapting to one’s own environment. These experiences are designed to help the child learn order, concentration, coordination and independence. The child now begins to gravitate naturally into other areas, feeling competent and comfortable in his own environment. All of the children are now progressing into areas such as sensorial language, math, art, and geography.
In the afternoon, the older children are progressing: formulating words with the movable alpha- bet. They are also able to create stories with the movable alphabet and will start recording words in their writing tablets. Higher level math with teens and tens combinations. All 5 year old students are now reading three letter words and are now able to sound out words and match pictures. Please reference word list for word boxes and homework notebooks need to be handed in weekly. Ref: Weekly Report.
Classroom Observations are available by request only Monday – Thursdays, no observations on Fridays. Half hour sessions in the morning. Please call Ms. Peg to schedule.
Veterans Day is on Tuesday, November 11th. We will remember the people who have served in the Army, Navy, Air Force and the Marines – all the people who have died in wars fighting to keep Amer- ica a free land. We will observe a moment of silence to commemorate these brave men and women. Children will receive a memento to take home.
